The creation\u00a0of my woven images begins with different digital photographs\u00a0to\u00a0make a new\u00a0composition.\u00a0The scanned images\u00a0are then modified,\u00a0combined with\u00a0drawings,\u00a0resized, etc. The number of\u00a0gray values\u00a0\u200b\u200bor colors\u00a0is reduced, then\u00a0each value\u00a0is replaced by a\u00a0weave structure.\u00a0Information is then transferred\u00a0to the computer that operates the\u00a0loom.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Pointcarr\u00e9<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0software\u00a0was originally\u00a0developed by Olivier\u00a0Masson and Francois\u00a0Roussel\u00a0of\u00a0France.\u00a0It is intended to\u00a0textile design\u00a0and more specifically\u00a0to the creation of\u00a0woven textiles.\u00a0The\u00a0Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles<\/strong><\/a>, that I run\u00a0since its beginning, has built its international reputation\u00a0by using\u00a0this powerful software. Workshops have been offered\u00a0for several years during which artists and\u00a0designers\u00a0from all\u00a0over the world\u00a0have been trained.\u00a0\u00a0De la photographie au tissage Jacquard.<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(in French).<\/p>\n The preparation\u00a0of my\u00a0embroideries is similar to the one I use for my woven\u00a0works. However,\u00a0the colors are applied\u00a0in layers of\u00a0threads.\u00a0I control\u00a0every step of\u00a0the preparation\u00a0of the file, the number\u00a0of colors and\u00a0stitches\u00a0that will\u00a0render\u00a0my\u00a0research.\u00a0The\u00a0\u00a0Embird<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0embroidery software is the best software for artistic embroidery.\u00a0It was developed\u00a0by the Slovak Republic\u00a0Dusan\u00a0Balara\u2019s family.\u00a0Independent from any commercial\u00a0embroidery machines, it will nevertheless\u00a0save all files\u00a0to be used on\u00a0all commercial machines.\u00a0His great strength\u00a0is the Sfumato module\u00a0(in memory of\u00a0Da\u00a0Vinci)\u00a0for interpreting\u00a0photographic images\u00a0in embroidery\u00a0while maintaining\u00a0the subtleties of color and fine pixels.<\/p>\n
