{"id":91,"date":"2011-12-11T15:05:42","date_gmt":"2011-12-11T20:05:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lemieuxberube2eng.wordpress.com\/?page_id=91"},"modified":"2024-03-30T12:06:03","modified_gmt":"2024-03-30T16:06:03","slug":"statement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lemieuxberube.com\/english\/about\/statement\/","title":{"rendered":"Statement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Regardless of\u00a0the meaning and\u00a0stages of life, nature\u00a0is always a source\u00a0of meditation,\u00a0energy, and\u00a0spiritual nourishment.\u00a0The strength and\u00a0the silent\u00a0trees\u00a0inspire me,\u00a0comfort me,\u00a0and\u00a0give me\u00a0vitality, stability and\u00a0peace.\u00a0Sometimes\u00a0in front of the\u00a0ugliness\u00a0of our world,\u00a0I dream of being\u00a0a tree.<\/p>\n<p>My\u00a0professional involvement\u00a0led me to\u00a0consider other\u00a0fields\u00a0as a form of\u00a0artistic\u00a0expression.\u00a0The movement\u00a0and rhythm\u00a0of the dancers have always\u00a0drawn my attention, and they\u00a0meet\u00a0my vision\u00a0of textile design. Contemporary dancers\u00a0in\u00a0action have\u00a0inspired\u00a0a series of scenes that I have photographed to be woven.<\/p>\n<p>It is with\u00a0my first\u00a0creations\u00a0using the new Jacquard technology that this influence appeared\u00a0more\u00a0tangible.\u00a0In 1997,\u00a0I realized around<strong>\u00a0twenty\u00a0textile works\u00a0whose subject was\u00a0the dance<\/strong>\u00a0and in particular the\u00a0movement, light\u00a0and textiles\u00a0present in\u00a0choreographic works\u00a0that I have\u00a0chosen. The different\u00a0choreographers\u00a0and photographers\u00a0that I contacted\u00a0in order to complete this series and to obtain\u00a0rights to use\u00a0their images were\u00a0excited about\u00a0my project\u00a0and allowed me\u00a0to share\u00a0with them and\u00a0understand more about\u00a0the work\u00a0of the dancer\u00a0and choreographer, for example.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, I wanted to\u00a0incorporate\u00a0more of my\u00a0own photographs, photographing taking\u00a0an ever\u00a0more important in\u00a0my\u00a0artistic research.<\/p>\n<p>In 2002, I wanted to research more intensively on the effects\u00a0of light\u00a0and color in weaving\u00a0\u2013 getting closer\u00a0to the work\u00a0of pointillism\u00a0from Seurat.\u00a0I first wove\u00a0<em><strong>Indian Summer<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0then a few\u00a0years\u00a0later, I did a coloristic study\u00a0whose subject was\u00a0the\u00a0study of light\u00a0in different seasons:\u00a0<em><strong>It\u2019s\u00a0winter, Spring,\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><em>at last,<strong> Summer<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0completed\u00a0the series.<\/p>\n<p>After this series\u00a0on the seasons, a new\u00a0series called\u00a0<strong>Coexistence\u00a0<\/strong>was born. Being\u00a0concerned with the\u00a0necessary\u00a0harmonious coexistence\u00a0of nature, men\u00a0and women,\u00a0the built,\u00a0and the artists, I wanted to make coexist in the same work\u00a0pictures representing\u00a0different components of\u00a0our experience.\u00a0Works, such as\u00a0<em><strong>R\u00e9flexion<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0<em><strong>Energy, Light of\u00a0the City, My Forest,\u00a0my Cathedral,\u00a0Solstice,<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0have emerged.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, I combine this coexistence approach to make\u00a0a new series on\u00a0<strong>Montreal based\u00a0contemporary dance companies.\u00a0<\/strong>These works\u00a0woven with integrated\u00a0metal wires\u00a0in warp and weft threads in order to obtain an effect of bas-relief\u00a0when they are displayed in exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>My work entitled\u00a0<em><strong>Le Dernier D\u00e9jeuner sur l\u2019herbe<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0achieved,\u00a0in my humble opinion, the highest in the quest\u00a0to integrate art to life.\u00a0We find\u00a0represented in one way or another\u00a0the work of a\u00a0choreographer (Fernand\u00a0Naud), a photographer\u00a0(Ronald\u00a0Labelle), two\u00a0artists (Da\u00a0Vinci, Manet), an author (Dan\u00a0Brown), not to mention\u00a0the thirteen\u00a0dancers,\u00a0and finally\u00a0my own work\u00a0(photography,\u00a0image processing and\u00a0textile design).\u00a0In this sense,\u00a0this work\u00a0serves as a\u00a0summary\u00a0of\u00a0some\u00a0of my experiences and is\u00a0a manifesto\u00a0for art, life,\u00a0and integration.<\/p>\n<p>The creative work\u00a0to make\u00a0this series was so\u00a0motivated and inspired\u00a0that it has made a small series of artworks was \u2013\u00a0in fact,\u00a0three\u00a0new works\u00a0have emerged:\u00a0<em><strong>Un grand questionnement,\u00a0Tribute to\u00a0Joseph-Marie\u00a0and Leonardo\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong>\u00a0The Song of Songs<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0In their own way, they questioned\u00a0my relationship with\u00a0history,\u00a0art and\u00a0religion.<\/p>\n<p>When I\u00a0was invited to participate\u00a0as an artist\u00a0in the Biennal du lin\u00a0de Portneuf\u00a0in 2007, I proposed\u00a0a monumental work\u00a0installed\u00a0in the church of\u00a0Deschambault.\u00a0The theme\u00a0was\u00a0<em><strong>Love\u00a0one another<\/strong><\/em><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0People from very different\u00a0backgrounds from each\u00a0other, are coupled\u00a0in a natural\u00a0or architectural scene. A musical score\u00a0inspired by the\u00a0poem,\u00a0the Song of Songs, was added to the\u00a0textile\u00a0work during the presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Since the beginning of\u00a0my work, I developed\u00a0a particular approach that combines computer-aided design and production and the theoretical principles of weave structures as they affect creation potential.\u00a0Integral\u00a0to this long\u00a0and endless\u00a0research,\u00a0I developed\u00a0a mastery of the\u00a0interrelatedness of all\u00a0elements of\u00a0a\u00a0textile design.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0am interested in the\u00a0formal qualities\u00a0of materials,\u00a0the technological potential\u00a0of the theories and\u00a0equipment\u00a0I use.\u00a0I rely\u00a0constantly\u00a0on textiles\u00a0themselves\u00a0to discover new\u00a0directions\u00a0in order to refine, develop and\u00a0explore the\u00a0process.\u00a0My\u00a0textile work\u00a0is, through\u00a0the computer, an essay,\u00a0an essay that allows me\u00a0to articulate\u00a0my creations which are physical,\u00a0tactile and visual.<\/p>\n<p>My sculptural\u00a0<strong>weaving done with metal wires <\/strong>are\u00a0in sharp contrast\u00a0with the warmth of my photographic works woven strictly with textile yarns and carried out on the jacquard loom. There is also a contrast between abstract\u00a0and figurative \u201crendus\u201d.
